Lacamas Park – CANCELLED for April 2011

Overview

Lacamas Park has a pleasant lake, interesting geology, a forested canyon with several waterfalls, possible blooming of the rare Camas lily, often seen turtles, and a network of kid friendly trails near a rushing creek.  It's a nice walk fairly close to Portland.

Location

near the town of Camas, WA

Trailhead amenities

There's a decent playground, picnic tables and bathrooms at the parking area..

Hike distance

about 1.5 miles

Stroller friendly?

No (unpaved trail with steps, baby joggers would be okay)

Driving distance/time  from downtown Portland

25 miles, about 35 minutes

Red tape/Fees

none

Getting there

Take I-5 or I-205 north across the Columbia River.  Turn right (first exit on the WA side) and drive east to Camas (exit 12).  Follow the exit road 1.4 miles to town, continue straight on 6th Ave. for 6 blocks, turn left on Garfield Street, and follow the "Hwy 500 West" signs 1.1 twisty miles to the Lacamas Park parking area on your right.  (Get ready to turn as soon as you see a large lake on your left.)  If the small parking lot is full, proceed about 100 yards farther, and take a right to an overflow parking lot.

Depart from trailhead

11:00am sharp.  Meet at the playground.
